USEF Selection Procedures

Age Requirements

All athletes, regardless of nationality, must meet the following age requirements to be eligible to compete in each age category of CSIO Youth Nations Cup competition:

  • CSIOY Young Rider Nations Cup: 16-21 years old
  • CSIOJ Junior Nations Cup: 14-18 years old
  • CSIOCh Children’s Nations Cup: 12-14 years old
These ages are determined by the FEI and not USEF. It is important to understand the differences in how each organization determines age.
  • FEI: Age is determined by the age you turn during a calendar year, which begins Jan. 1. If you are turning 16 in 2020, that is your age for the entire year, Jan. 1 – Dec. 31.
  • USEF: Age is determined by how old you are on Dec. 1. Your age as of Dec. 1 is your competition age until Dec. 1 of the following year.
